Welcome to Caregivers Wear Plaid section
at the Lowther Legacy Library

Caregivers Wear Plaid is now in the CWP area of the Lowther Legacy Library. It allows me to share a lot more information about the library, who we are, and our breadth of experience. The mission of CWP is to help others become more today than they were yesterday through presentation and awareness. So, we hope you will share our link with others, especially those who are living with a disabling autoimmune disease, such as lupus.

When Lupus Strikes – Caregivers Wear Plaid

People always ask, “Why Plaid?” Plaid can come in many colors and many patterns. A caregiver deals with many emotional, physical, and mental issues as they learn the role of a caregiver and that of an advocate for their loved one. A loved one has very different reactions to the disease and how it is affecting them emotionally, physically, and mentally. All these colors and patterns (emotions, etc.) can become very jumbled and confusing, leading to stress and anxiety for both of you. It is why I wrote Caregivers Wear Plaid. Patty had Lupus and many other comorbidities (sicknesses).  My role as caregiver evolved from advocate to taking care of her full-time before her death in June 2025. She lived a full life, reaching the age of 82, which is more than the norm for women, healthy or not. None of us is perfect, but the more you know about Lupus or another autoimmune disease and how to deal with the emotions, physically and mentally, as you traverse the medical community, the easier you will find this journey in life. Thus, CWP shows caregivers and their wives or significant others how to work together in harmony to strengthen their relationship, rather than tearing it apart from within. Because when Lupus Strikes, you need to strike back! And the only way you can do that is with knowledge and understanding. Caregivers Wear Plaid, the book, is available on Amazon HERE
